Part of the inaugural Barakah Archive Series.
This piece is part of the Barakah Archive Series, a small collection of one-of-a-kind garments created from reclaimed textiles connected to community history.
The patchwork backs incorporate:
• unused fabrics originally cut for hijabi-friendly masks during the pandemic
• reclaimed cotton textiles from the Barakah Community Closet
• heritage fabrics including African cotton prints
• reclaimed household and designer textiles
Each garment required many hours of patchwork construction and contains dozens of individual fabric pieces.
One-of-a-kind patchwork garments created from reclaimed materials are often priced as collector pieces in the $800–$1500 range, particularly when the textiles cannot be reproduced.
Because these pieces are part of a small experimental studio series and created from fabrics connected to our community work, they are being offered at an intentionally accessible price.
Studio Price: $475
Fabric Story
This one-of-a-kind Power Silhouette Abaya is crafted from a luxurious moonlight chenille velvet front that brings depth, softness, and quiet drama to the garment.
The true artistry reveals itself in the back: an intricate patchwork panel composed entirely of reclaimed textiles. These fabrics were originally cut during the pandemic to produce hijabi-friendly face masks but were never sewn once the need for them faded. Rather than allowing the materials to go to waste, they have been transformed into an extraordinary textile collage.
The patchwork incorporates a variety of cotton fabrics, including African prints and reclaimed textiles sourced through the Barakah Community Closet, creating a striking mix of pattern and heritage.
The back of this piece is also lined with a soft creamy beige reclaimed fabric, giving the garment additional structure and durability while maintaining its sustainable origins.
Only one Black & White Patchwork piece exists.
