Beautifully handmade by Michaela Corning in her studio in Seattle, WA.
These very special pieces represent the fusion of many cultures and traditions. The tassels were handmade, cut and configured by Michaela using simple tools and topped off with a Turkish metal cap (except the skull one). The ribbon cord is called Telli, which is a cotton and artisan metal hand woven ribbon from the UAE and Oman. It is made by Bedouin women and usually used to decorate dresses. It is not only striking but also very strong. When you buy one of these pieces, you are supporting both local US artists and women living abroad.
Telli cord measures approx. 30" around (skull necklace length is longer).
Purple: Lambskin leather tassel measures approx. 2.5" long. Silver Plated with a dangling hamsa.
Green: Lambskin leather tassel measures approx. 3.5" long. 24K gold plated with a dangling hamsa.
Skull: Elk leather tassel measures approx. 5" long. Made with vintage brass chain. Total length is 44" around or 22" from back of necklace to the end of the tassel. The skull is made of cow bone and comes from Africa and has rhinestone eyes. This is a very special piece because it is made with elk skin caught by Michaela's father in 1970 on their ranch. A truly vintage Americana piece.
